Arthouse-The Space presents Tools of Conflict, a solo exhibition of Nigerian artist Emeka Udemba. Working in a variety of artistic mediums spanning drawing, painting, photography, installation, and video, Emeka Udemba examines issues of cultural diversity and memory within the context of globalisation. In his most recent mixed media works on paper, Udemba explores the topic of conflict by questioning the media representation of violence, suffering and trauma.
Pointing to the ongoing animosities in parts of Nigeria and other countries in the world, Tools of Conflicts examines the role of identity, gender, and memory in conflict, and how imagery serves to dictate how history is experienced and written.
Emeka Udemba (Nigeria, b.1968) is a mixed media artist who lives and works between Lagos, Nigeria and Freiburg, Germany. Udemba has won numerous grants, prizes, and residencies in Africa and Europe.
