Morakinyo Femi
Morakinyo Femi is captivated by African culture, beliefs and traditions. Born 1984 in Ondo State, Nigeria, Femi is a painter and full-time art director at a leading digital agency in Nigeria.
A Fine Art graduate of Yaba College of Technology in Lagos, Morak later developed his interest in graphic design and unique stylized painting employing acrylic, oil and charcoal mediums. Through his narrative design, viewers are presented with classic yet stunning tales. Femi’s appreciation of vintage electronics, clothing and ways of life portrayed in his works offers an amalgamation of dramatic, absurd and amusing depictions of ordinary individuals. He draws from his past experiences and observations, detailing everyday moments including an Early Shave or listening to News on the Go. Morak’s subjects are seen occupied in their efforts which in turn fascinates and teases the audiences to wonder what next.
Femi’s works have been featured in Arthouse Contemporary’s Affordable Art Auctions. Group exhibitions include Africa Day Celebration at UBA House, Lagos (2010).
Femi is currently working on a joint exhibition, entitled Themed Memoirs to be held in 2019. The works will explore memories and experiences with an aim to preserve recollections and heritage. He currently lives and works in Lagos.
