Logor Oluwamuyiwa
Logor Oluwamuyiwa, born 1990 in Ondo State, Nigeria, is a sharp-witted observer of the human carnival. Armed with his camera at all times, he captures and retells stories from perspectives that are often overlooked.
An advocate for positive and rich storytelling through digital media, Logor’s intent is to rehash his experiences through nostalgic reportage, using conceptual and documentary style photography.
His particular attention to detail is marked on a significant close-up of Sandra Isodore’s hands. This image advocates the woman who not only loved Fela Anikulapo Kuti but mentored and had a huge part in introducing the Afrobeat legend to the history and politics of Africa. Logor’s black and white shots directs the viewer’s eyes to the complex features of everyday Lagos – a city he describes as his muse. A testament to his daily navigation in the mega polis is magnified in his archival project, Monochrome Lagos which asks “If I strip Lagos of its color, what will I find”. Logor acknowledges how color plays an important role in memory recall. He uses this with geometric shapes in his 2014 Urban Legend series to highlight the dynamic tension, action and purpose of the narrative. Works from A buffet of Light, Darkness and Forms (2017) shows broken bottles arranged at the top of a barrier (used for security) which hints at the landscape of the city. Logor notes how insecurity drives fear which in turn influences architecture (something he has found to be beautiful and inspiring to create with).
It’s Also A Solo Journey, Logor’s first solo, exhibited at News Of the World Gallery, London, 2016. In the same year, his works were presented in a group show at Bozar Arts Festival in Brussels.
Group shows include Generation Y at Retroafrica, Abuja (2018), Closer than ever, Gallery Momo, Cape Town (2017), Down the Rabbit Hole at Alara Concept Store, Lagos (2016); Gated Communities Showcase, Goethe Institute: Lagos and Manila, Philippines (2015). Logor’s works were included in LagosPhoto Festival (2017), Photo Days, International Festival Odesa, Ukraine (2017), Art Africa Fair, Cape Town (2017) and Joburg Fringe (2016).
Logor currently resides in Yaba, Lagos and his mission to document and introduce new ideas, forms and patterns is fully charged. He knows consistency and constant engagement with his craft will lead him to spaces he hopes to infect and disseminate new dialogue and knowledge acquisition.
